There are four dealers seriously selling into the SOFA community around Caserma Ederle, and between them they list 457 vehicles. They are not interchangeable. One of them sells no used cars at all; one is three times the size of another; one will happily have the car you want sitting in Germany.

A caveat on the table: price range is the span of what is currently listed, not a guide to what you should pay. A dealer whose range starts low has one cheap car, not a cheap lot.

The biggest used inventory of anyone serving this community, and the one most likely to have an unusual car — the range runs from cheap runabouts to genuinely old classics. Breadth is the reason to start here; it also means the lot is less curated than the smaller dealers, so condition varies more between listings.

The most geographically spread of the four, and the one whose inventory skews newest — you will not find a 1970s project car here, but you also will not find many high-mileage bargains. Because they operate across both countries, a car you like may be in Germany; worth asking early rather than after you have set your heart on it.

The most conveniently located of the four if you are stationed at Ederle, and a genuinely mixed lot — both US- and EU-spec cars, which matters if you intend to ship the car home later. Smaller than Patriot, so check both rather than assuming the bigger lot has more of what you want.

Not a used-car lot at all — this is Volvo US Military & Diplomat Sales, so everything is a new factory order at SOFA tax-free pricing, and the programme includes shipping the car home at the end of your tour. For a full three-year posting the maths frequently beats buying used here and selling at a loss on the way out. Narrow by design: XC40, XC60, XC90.
The question that separates these lots more than price does. A US-spec car is built to American standards — the instruments, lighting and emissions equipment your state will expect if the car eventually goes home. An EU-spec car is built for this market, is usually cheaper for equivalent age and mileage, and is the easier car to live with and to sell on locally.
It matters because of what you intend to do at the end of your tour. If the car is coming home with you, US-spec removes a conversion problem you do not want to discover in your final month. If you plan to sell it here to the next family, EU-spec is no obstacle at all and your money goes further.
That maps onto the dealers directly: Capitol is US-spec by programme because it is a US military sales channel, Military Autos Italy runs a deliberately mixed lot, and the other two vary car by car. So decide ship-home versus sell-here before you start browsing — it narrows the field before price does, and it is a much more expensive thing to get wrong.
